Chhath Puja is celebrated on the Shashti of Kartik shukla paksha. Chhath festival is celebrated twice a year. One in chait month and another in Karthik month. Very few people celebrate in Chait month and many in Karthik month.This festival is celebrated in the region of Bihar, Jharkhand , East Uttar Pradesh and Terai of Nepal. People of Bihar who have settled outside for employment also celebrate this festival in abundance like in Delhi, Kolkatta , Mumbai etc. This festival is celebrated in Bhojpur, Mithilanchal and ang territory of bihar according to the old tradition.

Contribution of Youth:-

Youth group and Volunteer participate with great enthusiasm in this work. A lot of arrangements have also been made by the government. Divers and police are arranged by the government. Emergency medical care is done. The river and pond are cleand by the youth and volunteer. Spraying of pesticides is also done. The ghat (Bank of river) is decorated very well.

This festival is four days. The fourth, fifth, Sixth and seventh day of Karthik month is celebrated. Sasti Mata is also known as Katyayani Mata. It is celebrated for happiness, peace and health benefits in the family. This festival is dedicated to Sun, Morning, Nature, Water , Air and his sister Chhath mata.

Today this festival is celebrated in Mauritius, Trinad,Jamika Java and where people of Indian origin live in abundance, where this festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm there. Many people from abroad come to see chhath Puja Patna(Bihar).

Chhath Puja method:-

Rule of this festival is very tough. Due to tough rule all people can n’t do this. This work is done by the female head of the family. But now a days men also do this work. Stitched cloth is not worn on this occasion. Suffering is taken by some people, under which they go from the dead body to the bank of river. Environmentalist loves this festival with great respect because cleanliness is very important in this festival. On the first day of festival i.e. the fourth day of Kartik month, people worship with mustard and cake on the bank of river or pond. Take a bath in a river or a pond , and it is custom to eat bottle gourd and rice. Fasting is to be done on the second day of festival i.e. on panchami Kharna is celebrated and people eat Prasad. Kheer and puri is eaten in Prasad. Third day of festival i.e. sixth day of Karthik Fasting throughout the day, Arga is offered to the setting sun in the evening. Fourth day of festival , i.e. on seventh day of Karthik month , Arga is offered to the rising Sun. Prasad is distributed at the ghat (i.e. at the bank of river). In Prasad Fruits , coconut, Flour dish is eaten . The rule of eating fish is at the end of the festival. People wear new clothes. Fireworks are also boiled. Kirtan and music are also used.

Celebrating Chhath festival in Corona era is quite challenging. On this occasion we have to take care not to hurt anyone’s religious sentiments , and social distancing should be followed. Just like this year celebrate Rosa and Eid, Sawan festival and Ganesh festival similarly celebrate Chhat festival. We can make a small pit in front of Our house and fill it with water, we can celebrate Chhath festival. We should avoid celebrating in public pond and bank of river this year.

Chhath puja is celebrated for happiness and peace in family. The rule of this festival is tough.
